The December 1949 issue of Science Fantasy News noted that:
‘New Worlds’ No 5 has appeared at last, with a striking cover by a new artist, Clothier, interior illos by old-timer Turner and Clothier, and a very good line up of British authors.

Raffled in aid
of the Junior
Fanatics Society
on May 23rd 1953
by kind permission
of Bob Clothier
Ted Carnell &
Tony Cooper

The raffle was held at the 1953 British National SF Convention, Coroncon in London. Rob Hansen writes that on the Saturday of the convention:

“An announcement was then made that the idea had been broached by many American fans to bring over a British fan for the Philcon in September. A raffle of original cover paintings had been organised to raise the cash. These tickets were available over here and were to be sold during the Con at 6d a time. One of these was for the cover of New Worlds #12. It was won by Vince Clarke and is currently hanging on a wall on my stairs.”
